art photonics GmbH, founded in Berlin in September 1998, is one of the worldwide leaders in development and production of specialty fiber products for a broad spectrum from 300 nm to 16 µm. Unique technologies of Polycrystalline Mid InfraRed (PIR-) fibers and Metal coated Silica fibers are used for assembly of various spectroscopy probes for medical diagnostics and industrial process control, in volume production of fiber for medical and industrial lasers, for different fiber bundles, etc. Since January 2024 art photonics GmbH is a member of NYNOMIC GROUP.
Dr. Slava Artyushenko - the President & CEO of art photonics GmbH will provide a presentation on "Advances in spectral analyser technology: Fibre spectroscopy tools for process Analysis" atthe first in a series of awareness sessions that will focus on different aspects of the use of process spectroscopy techniques, on Tuesday 31st, May 2022.
The focus of the symposium will be on measurement options currently available and how advances in technology may shape future spectroscopic analysers.
The event will be of interest primarily to those involved in the use of spectroscopic methods for on-line, in-line and non-invasive monitoring of manufacturing in the process industries but will also be relevant to instrument manufacturers and technology innovators.
Aims of the event:
• Review the wide range of spectral measurement options for process monitoring and control • Consider factors that affect process applications of spectroscopy • Learn about advances in technology that may influence next generation analysers

Utilization of New Processing Concepts to Support the Demand for Sustainable Materials in a Circular Economy, often enabled by Exploring New Reaction Routes for Continuous Flow Processing Aided by Real-Time Monitoring Technology
Overview and Workshop Theme: A key enabler of the move to a Circular Economy will be process intensification which offers much more efficient processing for the sustainable production of lower volume distributed waste streams to generate a broad range of new platform chemicals including a growing list of biomass mass derived molecules.
Using new chemistries and catalysts these new starting materials including nanomaterials are being converted to a range of new composites and materials with advanced properties. The 2021 Rome meeting will build on this theme of sustainable production and will focus on next generation materials.
Dr. Viacheslav Artyushenko, the President of "art photonics" GmbH will have a talk on "Fiber Spectroscopy Tools to Use in PAT Applications" on 21st March.
MIRACLE is the first mid-infrared attenuated total reflection (MIR-ATR) arthroscopy system for real-time, in-depth, clinical examination and diagnosis of degenerative joint diseases, that can be used in clinical cases where patients are recommended to undergo arthroscopy surgery.
MIRACLE device will allow orthopedics surgeons to obtain real-time information about the biochemical composition of the cartilage tissue, leading to objective decision-making on the most adequate treatment course, enhancing patient’s well-being and reducing the need for follow-up surgery.
Raman Spectroscopy Diagnostics ex-vivo to detect tumor margins in 3D using the thinnest fiber probe. Raman Needle Probe penetrates in resected tissue ex-vivo to define oral cancer (SCC) margins for 1 cm depth within 1 s – measuring each 100 ms the ratio of water / lipids bands in HW-Raman spectrum (as its growth is SCC specific biomarker).
A multispectral fiber optic probe has been developed that enables simultaneous analysis of various liquid and solid samples using attenuated total reflection mid-infrared spectroscopy and fluorimetry. The probe design was optimized using ray-tracing simulation of the light propagation.
Technical evaluation of the probe has confirmed its output signal quality that was comparable to that of respective probes for single methods. The capability of the probe to deliver complementary chemical information from the same measurement point has been illustrated using model samples of biological tissue. Qualitative analysis of the biological tissue is one of the most important applications of the developed multispectral probe.
Remote measurement of mid-IR spectra for solids and powders is now available with art photonics Touch ATR fiber optic Probe for FTIR spectrometers. The probe has a flat top ATR crystal easy to press to soft solids or powders and get spectra from the surface without sampling. Touch ATR Probes are useful in Quality Control, research, forensic and many other applications. Probes are available either in chemically durable design with Diamond tip or for laboratory.
art photonics GmbH introduces new product – ATR fiber probe for harsh and hazardous environment (high temp, pressure, pH, vibration, etc.) with 12mm diameter shaft (for industrial application) and 6mm diameter shaft (for lab applications).
These Fiber Optic ATR-Probes can be used for process-spectroscopy either in Near- or Mid-IR range for in-situ and in-line reaction monitoring in a broad temperature range from -150° to +250°C. They resist to vacuum and high pressure up to 200Bar and can be coupled with FTIR or any other IR-spectrometers and spectral sensors for the automated process control.
Main features:
High throughput in selected ranges of Near- or Mid-InfraRed spectrum
ATR-crystal shaped for immersion in liquid flow without dead zone.
Robust for industrial and lab applications up to 250°C
Resistant to high pressure (up to 200Bar)
Resistant to aggressive mixtures
Compatible with all spectrometers and automated process-interfaces

Viacheslav Artyushenko, founder of art photonics GmbH, is seeking to detect tumor margins using label-free fiber spectroscopy instead of H&E stains. Surgeons struggle to identify the border where tumors end and healthy tissue begins. His company therefore develops fiber probes to enable spectroscopic distinctions of the tumor margins during operation. ‘It’s fast and can give answers to the surgeon in real time,’ Artyushenko said.
