In chemical reaction monitoring, Mid Infrared (MIR) spectroscopy has advantages over near infrared (NIR) analysis as it is able to look more easily at functional groups for liquid processes and provide simultaneous monitoring of many chemical species.
In general, NIR allows general reaction monitoring to be observed and MIR allows monitoring of specific compounds and the combination of both datasets could give more information about chemical mechanisms.
For in-situ applications, the observation window is the eye to the process when using optical analysis methods.
Only a clean observation window allows reliable analysis at any time during chemical and biological processes. Therefore, the use of optical methods is only possible when the following procedures are executed reliably and at any time.

- Cleanness check of the observation window
- Active control over the complete analyser
- Zero baseline at any time
- Complete cleaning of all parts which have contact with product (surfaces, seals, etc.) following the guidelines of GMP, Hygiene etc.
The integration of an automated fiber optic analyser system to your reaction is now possible using approved fittings and flanges from KNICK. The semi or fully automated SensoGate-FOS and remotely operated Ceramat-FOS for use in sensitive and high safety processes are modified in such a way, that fiber optic immersion probes can be cleaned and used in an optimal way. For full automation, the connection of the retractable, cleanable fitting to process control systems can be easily realised with the control unit UNICAL-FOS 9000.
